Specialties

Primary Healthcare For WomenDr. Zain specializes in both family medicine and obstetrics and gynecology. That is the benefit of being board certified in both specialties. He is capable of managing as your family physician and your specialist in Ob/Gyn because he completed residency training and passed his board exams with high honors in both specialties. Below is a more comprehensive list of Dr. Zain’s interests and abilities.

I provide routine and high-risk obstetric care. Because of my family practice training, I am comfortable managing my high-risk patients with hypertension, diabetes, lupus, hypothyroidism, pre-term labor, pre-eclampsia, etc. When indicated, I perform amniocentesis for genetic testing and fetal lung maturity. Since I do this in my office, it saves the patient precious time and worry.

Obstetrics

I have over 20 years experience in gynecology  Whether you simply need an annual exam and pap or have a more complex issue, I'm happy to help.   I evaluate a significant amount of pelvic pain including management for endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, pain during intercourse, etc.  Abnormal uterine bleeding, ovarian cysts and birth control are common issues as well.  As our population ages, menopausal management, osteoporosis, and hormone replacement are more common concerns.   Breast disease and cancer are also frequently encountered.  Obesity is really an epidemic in our society so I do my best to encourage weight loss through proper diet and exercise.  Diet medication is sometimes necessary as well. Basically, I’m comfortable evaluating any health care issue and no problem is to small.  If it concerns the patient enough to discuss, it should be properly evaluated and I’m honored to do so!

Common issues include:

Family Medicine

Primary care for women is a big issue today. As a physician trained and board certified in both Family Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology, I am truly capable of serving as a primary care physician for those patients who desire it.  Diabetes, hypothyroidism, hypertension, depression, are just of few of the problems I treat.

Family Medicine

  • Tubal Reanastomosis
  • Operative Laparoscopy For Destruction Of Endometriosis, Adhesions and/or Scar Tissue
  • Infertility Treatment With Clomid And Other Medications
  • Intrauterine Insemination
  • Treatment of PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Disease)
  • Chronic Anovulation

URO Gynecology

I have had special training in Uro-Gynecology and helped set up the first outpatient Uro-Gynecology center as chief resident with the University Of North Carolina at the Wilmington AHEC OB/GYN Program. As a result, I have extensive surgical experience with bladder problems for women. These include all forms of incontinence or urinary leakage, as well as over active bladder and interstitial cystitis.  I perform URODYNAMIC TESTING in the office as well as DIAGNOSTIC CYSTOSCOPY for hematuria  ( blood in the urine ) and bladder pain.

Obstetrics

URO Gynecology

As a Pelvic Reconstructive Surgeon, I have extensive experience in surgery for endometriosis, cancer of the uterus, ovary and cervix, pelvic pain, uterine fibroids and more. I also repair abdominal wall hernias, incisional hernias and perform appendectomies when necessary.

Pelvic reconstruction is a special interest of mine. When a patient requires surgery, it is good to know her surgeon has the capability and versatility to do the most appropriate surgery for the defect at hand. Bladder hernia (cystocoele), rectal hernia (rectocoele), intestinal hernia (enterocoele), as well as vaginal cuff prolapse and uterine prolapse, (when the vagina and/or uterus falls out) are defects I have greater than 20 years experience repairing.  You want a surgeon who has the confidence and experience dealing with a difficult malignancy, an extensive lymph node dissection or a tough hysterectomy.

I performed the first TVT Sling in Morristown and have performed many different urogynecologic procedures for incontinance for over 20 years.   I have helped train several other surgeons in this field as well.

Outpatient Procedures
